Gateway Inn - Reception Lobby
Welcome to Gateway Inn - Reception Lobby
Gateway Inn - Reception Lobby, nestled in the heart of Bury Saint Edmunds near RAF Mildenhall, offers visitors a blend of practicality and comfort that resonates well with military personnel and their guests. With a solid rating of 4.1, this establishment strikes a balance between affordability and convenience, making it an appealing choice for those seeking a reliable place to stay close to the base.
The rooms, while older, are well-maintained and clean. Guests consistently highlight the thoughtful inclusion of full kitchens—complete with microwaves and small refrigerators—that add a homey touch to their stay. This feature, alongside amenities like irons, boards, and coffee makers, speaks to the inn’s commitment to functional comfort. The full-sized beds and work-friendly desks cater well to both relaxation and business needs.
Location-wise, Gateway Inn excels. It offers easy walking access to key base facilities, including the BX, gym, and base club, with taxi services available from the main office for added mobility. This makes it a strategic spot for visitors who wish to explore or handle errands with ease. The business-friendly environment is a notable plus, appealing to traveling professionals who need reliable connectivity and workspace options.
Customer service emerges as a standout aspect at the Gateway Inn. Multiple reviews praise the front desk staff for their helpfulness and warmth, underscoring a level of hospitality that often elevates the overall experience. Housekeeping also receives commendations for maintaining a clean and orderly environment, which contributes significantly to guest satisfaction.
That said, the inn is not without its challenges. The lack of air conditioning—a common issue in UK accommodations—is noted, as is the absence of elevators for upper floors, which might affect accessibility for some guests. Temperature control issues in rooms, particularly with heating and shower valves, suggest room for improvement in comfort management. Furthermore, some visitors have expressed a desire for more comprehensive information about base facility hours, highlighting an opportunity to enhance guest orientation and convenience.
Prices at Gateway Inn tend to be higher than local alternatives, reflecting its strategic location and the quality of service offered. While this may be a consideration for budget travelers, the overall value, especially in terms of staff dedication and room amenities, justifies the investment for many.
In essence, Gateway Inn - Reception Lobby delivers a straightforward, dependable lodging experience enriched by attentive service and useful amenities. It feels like a practical haven for military visitors and those connected to the base, offering a sense of familiarity and support that is valued in transient accommodations. For travelers prioritizing location and service, Gateway Inn holds a distinct appeal, despite a few quirks inherent to older properties.

Great place to stay if you are on RAF Mildenhall.. Super value for the price. My only issue was no A/C, but that is a thing in the UK. So it kind of isn't their fault. Front desk staff was great to work with, too.
Excellent rooms with a full kitchen! The only suggestion is that the information book should provide hours for all the facilities on base.
Older, but well kept and clean. Full sized bed, desk, tv, kitchenette with a microwave and small fridge. Within walking distance to the BX, gym, and base club. Taxi service is available at the main office building along with a few grocery items. Great customer service from the main desk.
The only negative I've found is the availability of the rooms. However, it is wedding and pcs season and I can't blame the inn for that. Front desk staff is outstanding and deserve the majority of the accolades followed by the excellent housekeeping staff
Clean accommodation with fridge, iron/board, coffee maker. Really friendly staff. Convenient for the military base. Priced more than local hotels and they said they're raising prices. Our room was on third floor and there was no elevator.
Comfortable room, but the heat was on and it was HOT. Couldn't turn it off. No antiscald control on the tub/shower valve, so had to be careful.
